A healthy immune system is the foundation of a healthy lifestyle. There are many components that play a role in sustaining a strong immune system, including diet, exercise, sleep and stress management. You can also take immune supporting supplements for extra daily support.

A Healthy Diet

Many people don’t realize a healthy diet correlates with a healthy immune system. Our diet keeps our immune system in balance. When our immune system is balanced and strong, we’re better prepared to fight off viruses and infections.


Protein is an important part of a healthy diet. It’s beneficial for combatting viral and bacterial infections. Our immune system runs on antibodies and immune cells, which also rely on protein to function properly. Too little protein in the body can lead to a weakened immune system, body weakness, fatigue, and much more. Maintaining a healthy diet that includes protein, healthy fats, whole plant-based foods, low amounts of sugars, and plenty of water is extremely beneficial for a healthy immune system.

One diet that’s gained popularity in recent years is the Mediterranean diet. The Mediterranean diet doesn’t deprive you of food. Rather, it helps balance our eating patterns. This diet is helpful if you’re looking for help changing and maintaining your eating patterns and habits. Plus, it’s filled with rich vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, fish, and healthy fats!

Several things you want to avoid while following the Mediterranean diet are red meat and sugar. But overall, this diet can be a gateway to a healthy diet, body, and immune system!

An Active Lifestyle

Exercise also plays a huge role in maintaining a healthy immune system. Exercising for at least 30 minutes every day can strengthen your immune system and help your body fight off viruses and infections. Exercise and diet go hand-in-hand with a healthy immune system. If you exercise 30 minutes per day and maintain a nutritious diet of healthy foods, you’ll give your immune system a boost! Exercise can also lower stress levels, which is beneficial in strengthening the immune system!

Maintaining Stress

While diet and exercise help maintain a healthy immune system, getting enough sleep and controlling stress levels are also important. Studies show that a good night of sleep can improve the function of immune cells. Immune cells fight off viruses and infections. When you have stronger and healthier immune cells, you have a stronger and healthier immune system overall.  

It’s also just as important to keep your stress levels controlled. High levels of stress play an enormous role in weakening the immune system. When the body is stressed, our ability to fight off harmful antigens decreases, so when our body is stressed, we are more prone to infections and viruses. The stress hormone cortisol controls stress levels in the body. When cortisol levels are too high, our immune system is suppressed and not as effective.

The Right Supplements
