July is National Hemp Month. In honor of one of the oldest and most versatile plants in history, Burman’s Health Shop continues to educate the community about the many uses of hemp.
Over the past 10,000 years, hemp has had many uses in our society. It can be used to make food, fiber, clothing, skin care products, CBD, Delta-8 and so much more.
A Short History of Hemp
In the 1900s, the hemp plant played a critical role in society. In the 1930s, hemp and marijuana were banned after the Farm Bill was updated. This caused a disruption in the production of hemp and a shortage of products produced from the hemp plant.
In 2014, the Farm Bill was updated again, making the hemp plant legal.
Hemp and Clothing
One of the most common uses for hemp is making clothing and rope. The fibers inside the plant can be woven into comfortable hemp clothing, which has been around for years. Hemp doesn’t need as much maintenance as other materials used to make clothing, and it grows much faster.
Hemp is also better for the environment than other textiles. And it produces high-quality clothing that lasts longer!
Hemp and Food
Hemp has been used for thousands of years to make some of the foods we eat. The hemp plant contains seeds that are nutritious for the human body. Hemp seeds contain healthy fatty acids, amino acids, proteins, and more.
Many people eat and cook with hemp seeds and with hemp oil due to the positive nutritional benefits.
Hemp for Wellness
The health benefits of hemp have gained popularity over the years. The hemp plant contains more than 100 cannabinoids, including CBD, THC, CBG and CBN, with various health benefits. Each can be extracted from the hemp plant and bind to receptors in our endocannabinoid systems to balance the body.
As you may already know, CBD is beneficial for pain relief. But it doesn’t produce psychoactive effects. CBG is the precursor to CBD and THC, so it’s non-psychoactive as well, but it can still provide medicinal benefits. CBN is another well-known cannabinoid that produces mild psychoactive effects.
Aside from CBD, THC is a popular cannabinoid inside the hemp plant. THC can help with pain relief, anxiety relief, sleep, socialization and more. Many people find mixing THC with CBD provides a wider range of benefits since both cannabinoids have medicinal properties.
